As we were chatting we came up with even more, but here are the five that I presented!

Tips for Writing Fiction

1. Start with a conflict! This is what moves your plot along. You can also base your story on an interesting character, but conflict is essential to plot.

2. Draw on personal experiences. A unique experience or area of expertise can lend depth and detail to your story.

3. Learn something new. Whether it’s a hobby or something more academic, a concrete interest or task that can be woven into the story (ie, your protagonist is a potter or chef or high school math teacher) draws in the reader and makes the story more believable. Rely on expert friends or go to the library for information.

4. Make an outline. This can include plot trajectory, character traits/profiles, themes. Revise as necessary.

5. Decide on narrative structure. First or third person (limited or omniscient)? Past or present tense? Short story or novel? If you can imagine your story being told any other way (by another character, in third person rather than first), try it out that way and see if it works better.

I had a quick question and I hope it’s okay for me to post it here. Whenever I post or someone comments on my site, the timestamp is way off. Any idea how to fix this?

So how does everyone feel about this?

I played around with wordpress this morning & it seems like this would be the easiest way. We have this parent blog, but we’d all have our own usernames & blogs. They would be linked to this one so we could come quickly to the parent blog to see what updated things there are to read, but we would only log into ours to write. Also, this way – YOU’D be email when someone commented on your won writing.

What do you all think? WordPress is new to me, and I’m just sort of figuring it out, but I don’t hate this format. It would be a little difficult to make make the switch, but it may be worth it if you all like this set-up better. If you do like it, you’d each create a wordpress account preferably being: yournameunveiled & your password could be simple: letswrite. Then we’d link it to this main page so everyone could see it.

Let me know by commenting on this page! If you all hate it, we can scrap the whole idea.
